Mission

Mission Statement:

Our mission is to preserve and present Serbian cultural heritage in the northeastern USA, through the promotion of modern and traditional achievements of the Serbian cultural provenance, as well as the cultural legacy shared by South Slavic peoples. We will foster collaboration with cultural organizations and individual promoters of friendly cultures, especially from the Balkans, in order to represent the richness of Serbian culture with its diverse historical influences.  We aim to include in this effort all friends of Serbian culture, particularly the young people of Serbian descent and their friends who are to inherit and spread this mission.

We will organize Days of Serbian Culture on an annual basis, with the Svetosavski Bal  (St Sava Ball) serving as both the primary fund-raising mechanism and the central event for the presentation of Serbian traditions. Such action will open up the possibility of organizing multiple fund-raising events at regional level in the northeastern United States.

Collected funds will be allocated to those cultural initiatives and projects that propose the best and most transparent programs in the spirit of our mission. Examples would be: workshops of Serbian language and culture, including: poetry, music and dance; choirs, bands, and dance groups; debate clubs on topics relevant to Serbian matters; and special events showcasing traditions and narratives from various parts of Serbia and its communities,  among others, the Roma, Hungarian, Romanian and Jewish ethnic communities. We may also provide stipends to outstanding students and researchers in US academic institutions in the field of Serbian language and culture.

Future will tell whether this initiative will raise funds sufficient for a physical location to house Serbian Culture in the northeastern United States.
